Small group reading intervention is provided in groups of 4 or less students. Each group is provided systematic, sequential, multisensory and cumulative instruction of the alphabetic principle. Instruction includes phonemic awareness, sound to symbol letter knowledge, the structure of the English language, reading fluency and strategies used for decoding, encoding, word recognition, fluency and comprehension.
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia means a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin; characterized by difficulties with accurate and fluent word recognition and poor spelling and decoding abilities that typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language and is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities. The Arkansas Department of Education has information about the plan to facilitate dyslexic students in Arkansas.

CRA has chosen to use the program CONNECTIONS: OG in 3D® It is a, systematic, multi-sensory research-based approach to teaching the phonology, decoding, and reading skills of the English language. It is an Orton-Gillingham based set of lessons which include phonemic awareness (enabling the student to detect, segment, blend, and manipulate sounds in the spoken language); graphophonemic knowledge for teaching the letter-sound plan of English; and the structure of the English language that includes morphology, semantics, syntax, and pragmatics.
